Meaning of Caveat eiviptor
(Lat. let the buyer beware). A maxim employed in the law to signify that a purchaser, whether of realty or personalty, is not only bound to discover obvious defects for himself, but is confined to the warranties which he has required, and cannot, in the absence of fraud, rely on the statements of the seller. Benj. Sales, 611; 17 Pick. (Mass.) 475; 10 Ga. 311; 9 N. Y. 36; 10 Wall. (U.S.) 383; 53 N. Y, 515. As an exception to the rule, there is, however, an implied warranty of title. 88 Ga. 629.
