What does Brand Name mean in American Law?

The definition of Brand Name in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:

The name tying a product to a particular producer under which its product is sold to the public. It may be the producer”s or seller”s corporate name, e.g., Kodak, but it need not be; Sealtest Milk is produced by the Kraft Corporation. A brand name may or may not also be a trademark, e.g., “Coca-Cola” is a brand name, but only “Coke” is a valid trademark.
