Alternative judgment
What does Alternative judgment mean in American Law?
The definition of Alternative judgment in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:
A judgment which gives the party against whom it is rendered a choice of what to do in order to obey. Ordinarily such judgments are defective as lacking in sufficient certainty. But in replevin actions it is very common for the judgment to order the defendant either to restore to the plaintiff the property at issue, or pay over to him its value.
