Meaning of Alluvion

The definition of Alluvion in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:

When riparian land is augmented by accretion the new material is properly called “alluvion.” The new land (i.e., not just the process) is also often called “accretion.” “Alluvion” is also sometimes used to describe the augmentation caused by avulsion. See also accession.
