Meaning of Affirmative Action Programs

Programs to remedy discriminatory practices against the handicapped, minorities and female persons. The program may be voluntariiy adopted, ordered by a court , entered as a result of a consent decree or as a result of the employer ‘s status as a federal contractor . The purpose is to eliminate past or continuing effects of discriminatory employment practices and procedures and to prevent future reoccurrences of such practices. The program may include hiring and promotion goals; validation of tests; specialized recruitment reporting and monitoring provisions.
