The definition of Affiliate in the law of the United States, as defined by the lexicographer Arthur Leff in his legal dictionary is:

As a verb, to affiliate ( ), as ordinarily used today in legal contexts, means to join or become connected, but in a non-physical sense, e.g., “The independent union was then affiliated with the AFL-CIO.” Cf., however, filiation proceeding.
