An affidavit made and produced in a legal proceeding to prove the fact of service of a legal document requiring such service. In federal courts, if service is made by a person other than a U.S. Marshall or his Deputy, he shall make an affidavit thereof. See Federal Rule of civil procedure 4(9) Appendix 2.
